Thanks. Today I cleaned the EGR valve and the PCV valve. Now it is running surprisingly smooth for a car without any power under load. The plug wires and rotor/cap are only maybe 10,000 miles down the road, I took the cap off and looked today and it all looked good inside, but as you say, looks can be deceiving. Will try that next.
