My Trailblazer has been like that for years, but only in the winter.

Cold weather...no reverse until it's warmed up. Forward is fine, though. I've put a hundred thousand miles on it like that.

Far as I can tell, it's a sticky valve in the valve body.

With forward AND reverse problems...I'd be suspecting an air leak into the pump--or a faulty pump.

Time for some pressure testing.
