Do your brakes squeak at all? Sometimes worn out or just generally crappy brake pads don't work well until some heat has been generated, hence the lack of stopping power when you first hit the pedal, followed by an eventual better brake response.
As for the 'low trac' light, that could be related the ABS or issues with the traction control system.
Also, check your brake fluid level... and your spelling.
