Yeah, fuel filters are maintenance items that are often overlooked. It wasn't a waste of time or money to change it, even if that was not related to the issue of no power.
Since everything was dead that time, you really need to be looking in the area of the battery. Confirm the battery connections are clean and tight and that the battery cables are of the molded style, not the "temporary" style that clamps on to the copper wire. Those have a tendency to allow the copper to corrode which can cause connections problems.
If the cables appear clean and are tight, then you should consider that you might still have a bad battery with an internal intermittent open circuit. Has the battery been replaced since last summer when these issues started?
