there is often a nub sticing out on the center of the convertor that has to fit into the hole on the rear of the crankshaft. take any of the flexplate to convertor bolts out you may have put in and try lifting up a little as you try and move it toward the engine. also if you changed the crank or had it reworked make sure it doesn't have a pilot bearing in it
