The crank sensor creates a signal that is sent to the ICM....we know the ICM is receiving the signal because it is firing the coils......the ICM then creates a reference signal, that is sent to the PCM, which the PCM determines rpm from.....if there is rpm data on the scan tool, then the PCM is receiving the signal from the ICM......
Big backfire? You checked compression on ALL cylinders? could also be a timing issue....
