Listen kids, when you're a passenger in a car when the cops pull up then speak only when spoken to. Also a good idea to not have open bottles in the car
That's why I keep those kind of people as acquaintances, rather than as actual friends. Most of the time they are even acquaintances, because I'm too nice of a person to just tell them to fuck off. Some people will just never learn to be discrete, or to shut their fucking mouths when cops are around, unless their the ones driving. Shit should be common sense to most people, especially when you're doing some gray area or illegal shit.

Luckily, I've only had experiences with law enforcement where I didn't get into trouble.

- Smoked a blunt with some friends below a secluded bridge, and then I bought like a dub ($20 worth of herb) from a friend, and within seconds a cop car pulls up on us. Cop is smiling and simply says "we just wanted to make contact with you, and know you were here." Went and sat in his car, with his partner. Didn't even check our IDs or anything. And there's no way he didn't smell the shit on us. We sat there discussing how lucky we were, for about 10 minutes and decided to leave. They were still parked on the other side of the bridge pillar from us, and never did shit.

- Walking around my neighborhood with a backpack full of bud lights, a joint in my pockets, chugging beers, with a friend/co-worker; because we were fucking bored as shit. At the same time, my friends 40 year old co-worker happens to be setting off fireworks half a mile away through the neighborhood. Cops pull up, seeing the open containers. Ask about fireworks, of course I have my ex-roommates backpack with 2 smoke bombs and a bong hitter piece. They do a light search, find the smoke bombs/hitter piece, & joint in my pants pocket, and we pour out the beers. They take the smoke bombs, hitter piece, and grind the joint under their heals, and we're on our way.

- Finished working on an Accord Wagon with my friend, so we, and his roommate, go to drop the car off to the "ethnically diverse" part of the City. Drop the car off, my friend gets paid (in cash and others....) and we're leaving the "ethnically diverse" area. Bam, get pulled over for DWW... Driving While White, in the wrong fucking neighborhood. Luckily we're white . I'm in passenger seat, listening to everything the driver is saying, and I forgot my wallet in my car (only time it's ever happened btw). Second cop comes to my window, and basically asks (in my naive brain) "So you guys came here together because it's the bad part of town? Of course I said, "Yeah", because we don't want to get shot or jacked for money or my friend's room mates car. A minute or 2 later, the driver gets pulled out of the car, and the bullshit starts. They claim I'm telling them a completely different story, from the passenger seat, about why we're down there, and asking if there's anything illegal in the car. Typical cop bullshit, trying to turn one person against another for no legit reason. Driver says "Nope", and we're on our way.

Very simply with my interactions with law enforcement. Don't act a fool, don't overreact, and just be cool. People who don't understand that, can't possibly be my friend. Unfortunately I know far more people who can't follow those "rules", but I've certainly figured out those who can.
