There should be plenty left in there, it can't really get out. Mine had plenty left in the wells when I replaced the OE cartridges a few years back.

Unless you just want to remove and replace it with new, but I don't think it's really necessary. Long as the cartridges are partially immersed it will be fine. You don't want too much in there or it will splash on the mounts and degrade them over time.

My mounts looked pretty good but I replaced them anyway. They weren't too pricey.

You have access to that GM10 strut tool to remove them? I ended up buying one.
