Re: Keyless entry stopped working
Do you know if your Taurus has the perimeter anti-theft system as well as the remote keyless entry?
If it has the perimeter anti-theft as well, roll down the driver's window, lock the doors, close all doors, reach in through the open window and pull the inside door handle to open the driver's door. If the GEM is working, the horn should start to honk and lights flash. Be ready with your ignition key to put it in the ignition and turn to the Run position to silence the alarm. If this is the case and none of the fobs work, you may have an issue with the GEM itself and it will require a professional scan tool to further diagnose.
If you do not have the security system but just remote keyless entry, try the interior trunk release button. The trunk release feature works through the GEM on vehicles with remote keyless entry so if the trunk release works, that indicates the GEM is at least getting power.
I guess the first question I should have asked is for you to confirm that this is a factory installed remote keyless entry system rather than an aftermarket keyless entry or alarm system.
