had the same thing happen with an 88 Accord. it has some mystery electrical problem. the timing belt snapped and it sat for almost a year. couldn't decide to fix it or sell it. sold it to some guy for $200. told him about the electrical. he fixed the timing belt and was driving it around all happy. 6 mons later i stopped seeing the car. a lemon for sure.
i'm sorry to hear your troubles. 1 bad car is ruining your experience. to look at the glass half full....at some point you'll have all this stuff replaced and then you won't have to deal with it again. at least that is the way i look at it when i have to replace say struts, alt, brakes, water pump, cv's and other stuff
