Don't worry too much
I just washed the compound away with dish washing detargent then overcoated the body color. It doesn't trouble you at all. even Tamiya says "after apllying surfacer, please try to sand and polish with compound, then apply the body color. These steps would lead splendid result". I was always following these steps and having very good result.
