Alcohol will work and probably not take as long as you think. I usually have great results with an overnight soak and scrub off the next morning with a toothbrush. I feel however that even alcohol may harm your putty work. It depends what putty/filler you have used..?? I used 2K polyester filler before and the alcohol hasn't harmed that whatsoever, but Tamiya putty and various others have all been removed by the alcohol..
