Re: 02 impala abs, traction control not working

OK, when you just turn the key to "on", not starting the car, do the ABS, CHECK ENGINE/SERVICE ENGINE and TRAC lights come on as a bulb check?

When you start the car, are these lights out?

To test the ABS, find a safe place where you can bring the car to a stop where only the passenger side is on snow and the driver's side is on bare pavement....hit the brakes good.....you don't feel a pulsation in the brake pedal or hear the clicking of the solenoids?

As for traction control, different systems use different methods to control slippage.....in some systems, the ABS will be used to control a slipping wheel, and you will hear the ABS activate.....other systems don't use the ABS to control slippage.....they may shift the vehicle into second gear to reduce torque or they may retard timing or they may kill injectors.......your owner's manual should explain how this is accomplished and what you should hear/feel when the traction system is activated....

Last thing to do is scan the vehicle for codes...
