Back when I was renting a transponder I would zip-tie it to the rear frame by the fuel cell. Never had an issue with it working. These cars have a ton of different options with easy line of sight to the ground. Best to put it up front if you're actually racing and end up with a photo finish.
On my Z06 I have it mounted to the frame rail behind the RF wheel.
