I need to change the lower control arm bushings in the front of my car. I purchased the bushings and proceeded to remove the driver side wheel I removed the brake caliper and the drilled the rivets out of the dust shield. now I am trying my damndest to remove the lower control arm ball joint from the A frame assembly and the Taper is stuck so tight that I cannot remove it. I went to Autozone and with a 100 dollar deposit I brought home what they told me was the tool and the adapter that I needed. Well I cannot see how the C-clamp looking tool could possibly work for what I need. Am I looking at this the wrong way is this the correct tool. To me it looks like a press to remove the ball joint completely. How am I supposed to get this C-clamp tool in to press the ball joint "taper" out so that I can remove the lower control arm. I need the lower control arm out so that I can Press out the front control arm bushing and replace it. Now the tool looks like it could be used to press the new bushing into place, but I cannot figure out how it could be used to press the Ball joint Taper out so that I can remove the lower control arm. Can anyone please help me here I thought this would be a 2 or 3 day job but it looks like it may be a big problem. I tried to heat the area around the Tapered shaft and have the weight of the car help to press it out using a floor jack and a piece of wood to keep from damaging the threads on the tapered shaft, but it is a new ball joint so I don't want to ruin it I need it.
