Am writing this for a friend who owns a 95 740I with 66,000 miles. After spending approx $3000 to address oil leaks, rough idle and declining gas mileage he's been told he will need to replace the short block. His mechanic said there was a defect in this model that led to scoring and damage to blocks. He has also been told he has no recourse.
