took it to a shop and was told that the timing belt skipped 8 notches, the tensioner was seized up and the tensioner spring is broken. They said when they do the job the valve cover gasket should also be replaced. when this is completed it wil be 600 hundred plus tax. cheaper than buying another car. I'll keep posting if something else turns up... hopefully it won't. knock on wood.
