The BMW, maybe, but I would argue the Porsche was likely the model manufacturers didn't want to do it because both Revell and Tamiya had already made versions of the 911 GT1. Revell made the 97, and Tamiya the 96. Both were decent sellers, but probably not enough to risk their sales by bringing out another model that is too similar and compete against themselves.
