If it's not too late to be useful, I buy most of the parts for my Benzes of various ages from Rusty Cullens. He has an online catalog with prices at
BuyMBParts. Fast, friendly service with tremendous prices.
I think only the 6 cylinder 280E was offerred in the US in that body, but most things should be similar to a 230E, with the likely exception that the Euro model would have fewer options. The factory repair manual for the W123 series (that body style) may actually include the 230E, but should at least cover most of the car. New manuals are available only on CD from MBUSA at 1-800-4MERCEDES, or possibly from Rusty at the above link. The CD manuals run about a hundred to a hundred fifty bucks, depending on the series, but they include just about everything, including chassis, engine, and electrical manuals, an owners manual from one model in the series, and maintenance information. They are somewhat geared to a mechanic familiar with MB work, but they are the definitive source, including the factory recommended torques, etc.
Good luck,
