PORSCHE 997GT3R -Ringkämpfer- 24h "Ring" 2011

The Ringkämpfer finally is alive!

I’m glad I finished my interpretation of a Porsche 997 GT3R phantom racer yesterday. This is / was mentioned to be a possible competitor of the 2011 edition of the 24h at the Nürburgring / Germany.
I'm pretty sure you notice some impressions we got from the race held two weeks ago.......;-)

Unfortunately the car didn’t do it to the very end, “we” lost the car in the 22nd hour due to a broken driveshaft……….next year!!

The car was carefully dusted with a mixture of light grey / anthracite acryl colours, afterwards the back of the Porsche was given an additional treatment with grinded pastels to simulate the dust, exhaust air and emissions and dirt thrown up from the huge rear wheels.
The wheels were glued separately and special care was taken to achieve that angular look / negative chamber, especially at the rear wheels. Stone-chipping was carefully scratched in the window and worked out with a blunt X-acto-knife.
Pieces of white and black tape were cut and placed over / along the damaged wheel arch at the front. The leakage of fuel on the front bonnet was simulated with highly diluted dark brown oil colours. And another two days to apply the 13907 small dots, caused by smashed flies, insects and rubber shrapnels hitting the car with almost 100°C at very high speed……..

One of the mechanics of our team gave the back of the racer an individual lettering, “SAVE THE RING”, written in the early stages of the race with white chalk. The lettering faded more and more hour by hour…………
After some critical manoeuvres and more or less unoffending strikes and / or hits with slower competitors our pit crew used the long and exhausting hours at night to give the car another personal mark. One of the mechanics organised an orange coloured piece of tape and made a little sticker which says “Ein Herz für Clios” (A Heart for Clios)…………..ironically.
Small things like that can be seen often at the Ring and help to make that an outstanding and unique event.

Here are the pics, i hope you like it.

I promised an extensive step-by-step documentation of my finish work and believe me, it is about to come in the next days, but in the WIP motorsport section. The pics are taken and I will try to make something like a small tutorial. Maybe by the next weekend. By now I’m just kind of happy to having it brought to an at least satisfying and positive end ......;-).

OK, enough for today, i'm feeling something like a "blankness" by now.......happy and also a bit proud but the Porsche is done by now.

All the best, and like i said before, my WIP report isn't closed by now!!!

Good fight, good night
jochen
