Re: 1994 speedometer

I just bought a '94 accord LX with a bad speedo. I also changed the VSS to no avail. So I looked for a replacement speedo. Found them for $170 with no guarantees and $280 with a warranty, But I am very cheap when it comes to used cars. So I got creative; I bought a '86-'89 accord speedo cable, and a Equus mechanical speedo (both new) plus a "sparkplug cable to coil" boot. I then removed the VSS and installed the new cable where the small VSS driveshaft was with the rubber boot and 2 hose clamps. Don't forget to anchor the cable to a bracket above the transmission so it doesn't pull out from vibration (I learned this the hard way). I then drilled a hole next to the throttle cable (on the drivers side of it) big enough to pass the cable through. I removed the dash cluster and took the electric speedo out. Then I centered the new speedo where the electric had been and cut a hole thru the circuit board. Using 2 screws to mount the speedo, and soldering the top speedo light to the circuit board I somehow messed up the fuel gauge (next time I will be more careful but I don't really need the gauge). After mounting and testing the dash, everything worked except the fuel gauge. The gauge Part No. is (7072), the cable Part No. is (CA3070) Pioneer Inc. brand. takes a little ingenuity and a want to save money, BTW I only spent $100 on this challenge. good luck.
