This is a brake conversion i did over the weekend. From the stock brakes to 12 inch brakes.
Car: 1999 Pontiac Grand Prix GT 3.8L NA (stock)
Donor car: 2000 Chevy Impala 3.4L
First: I made sure this would all fit. Measured everything. If you have 15" wheels this will not work. It needs to have 16" wheels. So upgrade if you dont.
Second: Went to a junkyard and found the donor car. Any 2000 to 2005 Chevy Impala will work. Doesnt matter the engine or trim package. All came with the 12inch brakes. I found a 2000 that had brand new brakes on it. Looked like the car had a heavy side impact.
Third: Take the caliper off, this helps in taking the bracket off. Then take the bracket off. Keep the bracket. Do this for both sides. This will be the only part you need from a donor car.
I took the rotors and the pads as well cause they were in good shape. But its prefered you get new pads and rotors for this.
Fourth: Do the same to the vehicle you are working on. Except replace the original bracket with the one from the donor vehicle. Everything should fit and bolt up perfect.
You will notice a huge differnce in stopping power. I did. Im not use to stopping that quick.
