1970 Porsche 908/03 - 1970 Targa Florio winner - 1/8 scale
The 908/03 was developed by Porsche for use on the Targa Florio and Nurburgring 1000km as an alternative to the bigger, heavier 917. In this context it was highly successful, winning three of these four events in 1970 and 1971. Several chassis were sold into private hands for the 1972 season and continued to race in top-level sportscar races through the rest of the decade, often with changes of bodywork and engine configuration to suit evolving regulations.
Car no.12 was raced to victory by Jo Siffert and Brian Redman on the 1970 Targa Florio, with other 908/03's in 2nd and 5th place.
Work began on this project in November 2008 and continued through to January 2012. Although I did not keep a record of the time, experience with previous projects suggests a total figure in the region of 1800 - 2000 hours. It is scratch-built from a variety of materials including a full styrene-tube chassis with fibreglass bodywork. Overall measurements are 453mm long by 250mm wide.
I'm posting a summary of materials, references, acknowledgements, etc, on the WIP thread, but I would like to thank everyone who has followed this project - I hope you've enjoyed it. Any questions? - please ask!
