This swap is a must, and quite frankly its probably one of the easiest swaps out there.
3100 dollars for a complete engine, tranny, axles, wiring harness, ecu, is kinda high. You should be paying more than 2500 for that stuff, now if your paying for installation thats a different story. That usually runs 500-1000 depending on where you go.
Seeing that you are dropping it in the 94-95 make sure you go OBD 1 which is a 92-96 H22. If your buying a 96-97, still stick with OBD 1. Its a much easier install when it come to wiring and the ecu is upgradable. OBD 2 kinda sucks, seeing that it can't be upgraded.
Technically you could still use your Accord Ecu, but it will map it to the F22 specs, so you wouldnt get the full potential of the H22. But you already know this.
You can use the Accord tranny for a clean drop in, but recommend using the H22 tranny as it will hold the power better. Seeing that you will most like use the H22 tranny you will have to shave the right side motor mount. Thats it.. The H22 is a direct drop in in the 94-97 Accords. Bottom Line!
You will be able to keep your AC if you wish, your Power Steering is up to you. Onc ethe F22 is out unhook the power steering line and take that and the H22 power steering pump side and take em down and have the hoses put together at a some kind of pressure hose shop. Your local auto store can fill you in on where it can be doen in your local area. To keep Power Steering this is a must. Other wise the F22 hose & bracket will not fit on the H22 Pump
Wiring can be difficult if you don't know the pin-outs on the ECU, to get this I recommend getting with your local Honda service or parts department to obtain the schematics. You will need both sets, one for the H22 and one for the F22, seeing that some of the wires will be different colors, this will help aid in getting them hooked up right.
You may need to replace a sensor or two here and there as some get damaged in shipment. No biggie though!
I definately would upgrade your clutch while you are doing the swap, so much easier. However if you wait, you don't have take out the engine to do redo the clutch, you just drop the tranny, it takes all of but maybe 2-3 hours given the right tools.
Thats all I got time for as I'm on my way out the door to go to work.
This swap is a cinch and yeas it can be doen by yourself and an experienced mechanic..
As with any swap, it is never perfect, you will have kinks for a few months afterwards this is normal, no matter how good the install was.
If you have any questions email me at
[email protected] as I have accomplished this swap and love it, I woudnt want anything else...
I will try and get back to you later, but I have been really busy lately so be patient. I will further try and get you a extensive list of websites that sell this engine much cheaper than what your being told. Peace and Good Luck...
