replace selenoid?

1996 T&C LXi, 145K mi, 3rd tranny.

Last week my wife experienced the dreaded limp mode scourge. When she drove off to church I could hear a whining noise that I thought was the e-brake still on. I called her on the cell and she assured me it wasn't the brake. Yeah, my next thought was the tranny because I had been hearing the selenoid chirp at me for about a year (that's only a few thousand miles for this vehicle). Fluid and filter changed within 5000 miles (yes, proper ATF+4).

She drove the van home later and said it was fine. Yeah...this happens with these crappy trannies. I tried moving it in the driveway after about a week. It sits on a moderate incline. I could feel the tranny engage reverse, but nothing really for forward gears at all. I didn't want to hurt anything so I didn't push it much. I had already dealt with the crappy connections to some of the sensors last year, but I suppose it could be that again.

But I have been listening to that selenoid long enough to know it causes problems and needs replacing, and my question is this: if the selenoid is bad and I replace it....will the tranny begin to shift properly with no other repair?
