Insurance company totaled it out at $6100. 2 daughters who mostly drive it are really bummed out.

I'm thinking of keeping it and they'll deduct the $1000 salvage value giving me $5100 cash. I'll probably put the cash aside and lease a compact car for my daughters to drive for a couple of years till they're completely on their own. They both test drove a Kia 4 cyl. compact today and said "Well, it's not a Grand Prix GTP".

My biggest concern is a little bodywork on the sheet metal at the bottom of the trunk opening. It's pushed in and will need to be pulled back out a little to match a new trunk lid. Rest is just parts.

Damn, glad your daughters are alright, shame about the car.

Have you seen it?
If you can get some photos of the boot damage and show them to a panel beater they maybe able to tell you what is needed to fix it.

It's possible the insurance company wrote it off because it will need a section cut out, and a new one from a donor car welded in.
This can get very expensive very quickly.
