thanks for the reply, I will check these when I am off work this evening. I'm really glad to hear its likely not the timing cover or the oil pan gaskets. from everything I am reading, both are a real PITA. I just repaired a major coolant leak and then this nightmare happened 2 days later. I guess at 197k its about time I finally have some problems! I will post my findings later tonight.
