V8stockcar @ Daytona

The summer break is nearing an end and the V8 StockCar Series racer's will soon test the new surface at Daytona International Speedway on August 6 & 7. Last year's paving of the track cancelled the series August event. More than thirty cars are expected in the group, with racer's anxious to try out the smooth new surface with improved grip. A few of the V8 racers competed in the Central Florida Region SCCA's May Daytona Classic and they came away impressed. Several ran their best ever times that weekend including Tom Keleher and Ray Webb who cut 1:56 laps in their rides. Keleher was in his familiar silver GT-1 Camaro and Webb was in his ex Ryan Newman Dodge Charger. Bobby Kennedy set a new standard for SCCA SPO in the Bemco Monte Carlo and won overall both days.

The Porterfield Enterprises V8 GT-1 class looks to be very competitive with Dave Machavern in his new Tommy Riggins built Falcon, Charles Wicht in a Rockertsports Corvette, Bob Borders in his Corvette, Webb in his fast Nascar Cup car, and Tad Segars in his super late model. Aso, Squeak Kennedy, Keith Goldin and Dick Greer all in Grand Am spec GT cars that fit in the class. Kennedy will be in his new Bemco built Corvette, Goldin in a Riggins built RX8 and Greer in a brand new Porsche GT3 GA spec car. In PitBoxes.com V8 SPO, last year's champ Larry Hoopaugh is expected to slug it out with Paul Breehne in his fast Rousch Performance Parts Ford Fusion, Lee Arnold in his late model, Adam Romito and young Kennedy in a new Bemco Camaro.

In the Howe V8 GTA class, former Daytona track record holder Butch Kummer will make his season debut and will contest for the win against young gun Cameron Lawrence, Tommy "Hollywood" Graham, 2010 champ Randy Walker, 2010 Savannah winner, Bobby Reuse and others. Lawrence was very quick in the May SCCA race at Daytona in the former Jay Marshall Impala. Graham was the class championship runner up last year to Kurt Roehrig.

After Daytona the Series will move to Charlotte Motor Speedway, August 20 & 21 with two races at the famous facility.
