CV Shaft Replacement

Got a torn upper CV boot. Noticed grease when rotating the tires and sure enough, there's a 1/2 inch hole in it. Taped it heavily with heavy duty duct tape for a temp fix.

Been reading about replacing the whole shaft. The thing is, I don't want to disconnect the steering knuckle from the strut due to the fact that I may not get it reconnected just right and the camber could be off.

Is there a way to remove the shaft without disconnecting the knuckle/strut? If I removed the hub, can the shaft fit through the knuckle?

Of course this is on the 2001 Alero.
