Re: Buying New Tires? Five Warranty Details to Know

Also be careful not to purchase old tires that have been in the store's inventory too long. Tires can break down with age and their useful life will be shortened.
To determine a tire's production date look for the tire identification number. It is a combination of letters and numbers that tell where the tire was produced and when.
If the tire was produced before the year 2000 there will be a three digit code. For example if the code reads 128 then the tire was made during the 12th week of 1998.
After 2000 tire manufacturers switched to a four digit code. A code of 2509 means the tire was produced the 25th week of 2009.
Try to purchase tires with the latest codes if possible to ensure freshness. If possible visually inspect the new tires before purchase to make sure there is no dry rot or other issues related to long term storage.
