A good suspect for your symptoms (sudden stall + starts and dies instantly) is the MAF sensor. This is exactly what happened to me when a bug got on the sensor (the air filter box wasn't tightly closed).
I think that you can test for this by unplugging the MAF sensor electrical connector. If you do this and the engine will start and run (you'll get a check engine light), then you can try cleaning or replacing the MAF sensor.
