The shop is correct. Only the passenger side lateral-link is adjustable. Get down behind it and look at either side. You will see for yourself. Unless it has been through a wreck, or there is a bad/worn suspension component, there is no reason why it should be necessary to adjust the other side. One side will pull the other into alignment. The front can pull the rear out of alignment as well.

The usual causes for bad rear alignment, besides the aforementioned, is broken spring(s) and/or deteriorating strut mounts and tower. If you're in the rust belt, the latter two should be monitored closely. If not handled prior to failure, the entire car may have to be scrapped. Otherwise they can be handled preventatively.
