what you have to remember is how big that little part is in real life and they would scale down (or up if you go the other way...)

in 1/24:
0.8mm=19.2mm
1.2mm=28.8mm
1.6mm=38.4mm

this doesn't just apply to hose joint parts.
when using styrene rods to make other parts/lines in a car engine bay, think of how big it is to help you choose the appropriate size rod diameter or sheet thickness.
