Also (don't know if related) the last couple weeks the truck whines so loud somewhere in back that you can barely hear the engine. The faster, the louder.
Check rear end for grease level?

and yes i would check rear end fluid i have a 91 s/10 and the rear end takes tranny fluid. sorry i didn't read enough on your post.
