your transmission is in limp-home mode, meaning there is an electrical fault and it's defaulted to second gear and reverse. I'm 90% positive you have a bad output shaft speed sensor which is a common thing to go wrong.

Is the check engine light on? You can retrieve the code by turning the key on/off 3xs ending in the on position. It'll spit out a code where the odometer is, usually a P07xx code or something like that.
