Re: '99 Silverado 2500 - Replace rear wheel bearing
I recently changed the bearings and axle seals on my '95 and afterwards noticed diff fluid coming out of one side. Turns out the new seal wasn't quite big enough to provide a good interference seal with the axle tube housing...it was snug but I could remove it by hand. Rather than having to drain the diff, remove the shaft, and replace the seal again, I jacked up the one side, cleaned the tube and seal surfaces with solvent, and applied a thin coat of oil resistant silicone sealant. Pressed it back in to cure...no leaks since.
I write this so you can check that the seals are a good fit and avoid more leakage. Good luck!
