Just to be on the safe side, I would still disconnect it, the only problem is, your fuel gauge might not work, so double check a wiring diagram to see which wire is for the gauge. If for some reason you still have over 13 PSI of fuel still flowing, it wouldn't hurt to install an adjustable fuel pressure regulator. Let me know what happens
