Not really, these days, thanks to Hobby Link Japan, Rainbow Ten or Hobby Search. Those places sell kits in Japanese yen, and generally, int. shipping comes cheaper than the local distributor's markups, especially when buying multiple kits.
Anyway, i don't really like to buy Fujimi or Hasegawa kits, cause there is no indication whether the kits have engine detail or not
There's always AutomotiveForums for you.
Just ask, and someone, (if not me) should have build or own an unbuilt kit. Even if the question is something so common like, "Which Skyline has the engine details?", don't hesitate.
BTW, visible part of the boxer 12 is included in Fujimi's Koenig Testarossa kit with adequate details, and it can be seen through the engine cover.
