You need to remove the black hush panels below the I/P and should have enough space to pull the core from there. It's been a while since I did one but I know I didn't remove the complete I/P. Access through the glove box may help.
My daughter's '95 LeSabre core comes right out through the glove box opening with the glove box removed. Piece of cake.
