In a fight against spam, since there are spammers that simply register on the site to make posts to sell us Viagra, a donkey, or our own water bottle, we are going to be constituting a change to our membership system.
All new members will have the ability to make posts from the get-go, but many privileges will only come into play after they have successfully demonstrated that they are not a spammer, namely, by not being banned during the following period (pretty simple!):
- Have been a member for 10 days AND
- Have made 5 posts
The privileges one gets after clearing the above two hurdles are as follows:
- Private messaging with other members
- Signature below own posts
- Custom user title
- Post events on the AF Calender (this is new!)
- Email other members
- Give out reputation points to others for quality posts
- Visitor messaging (on others' profiles)
Our regulars will not notice anything during this transition, except of course the new feature - calendar events posting.
We will most likely continue to tweak the settings on the newly-registered user-group, but will always make sure that even a new member can take advantage of our vast community's know-how and have the freedom to partake in our various discussions.
