Got it fixed.
Thanks for all the help and of course you were correct with your diagnosis. I really had no idea how the system worked. I had what was described in the link as "soft nipples". Once I saw that I just attached the vacuum lines directly. About a 20 minute fix as the longest part was just getting the AC programmer in and out. All in all I learned a lot and now I know my way around this area of the vehicle pretty well.
