cold air+water

Ok, we all know that water in the engine is bad. But how much? All the aftermarket air filters are water resisant, right? So a couple drops aren't going to do anything. Then it has to travel up the pipe(which is at one point completely vertical). Does the filter basically have to be underwater for water to go into the engine? Or would the splash from a puddle be enough to do damage? Any luck with the aem bypass? Wouldn't that only stop a large amount of water from not going into the engine and not a couple drops? Has anyone put the valve on a non-aem intake? Luck?

Should i invest in one of these (i'm pretty unlucky and the warranty won't cover a destroyed enigne from aftermarket cold air). I live in Socal and it rains like twice a year....
