"Clanging" noise from front driver's wheel

I have a '99 Jimmy with a "clanging", for lack of a better word, coming from the front driver's side wheel. I only hear it when i hit a bump. It goes away when i push on the brake, and no braking issues that i can tell. Today i pulled the wheel off and checked the brake caliper and it seems to be on tight, no abnormal wear on the rotor. The only thing i noticed was the upper ball joint boot had a crack in it (i replaced these not long ago, along with new tie rod ends, probably overfilled it with grease). I also had the wheel bearing replaced three weeks ago. I haven't replaced the shocks yet, could it be a worn out shock? Any ideas anyone?
