Having the base timing off a few degrees won't cause any shaking. There is likely a miss from mixture problems. I've run SBCs from +6 to -18° BTC with no problems. Check vacuum hoses, carb flange, and intake leaks, then go to work on the mixture and bowl level if there are no leaks.
What carb is installed? There may be misalignment and gaps at the base to the intake connection.
