If you for sure don't have ignition spark, the most common thing to go dead is the ignition module on the side of the distributor. You need a special, but inexpensive, tool to replace this.

It is also common for the coil and the PIP inside the distributor to go dead. Although the coil and PIP will usually come back alive after the engine sits a while.
