It would be correct to give your engine and old /new body style ..
with these vehicles if the engine where having issues the check engine light would come on..
If the transmission had issues the use of a scanner with the ability to read oem drivetrain codes is required...
lets says with the proper scanners you truely have no dtc failure codes...then I would do the fuel pressure test with a guage and also operate the vehicle with the pressure guage connected when driving for a period of time that this does occur..with your mileage/age the fuel delievery system is a system that can give the issues you are having.
fuel pump/fuel pump grounds/ fuel pump relay/regulator..etc..
with the following of the fuel pressure testing proceedure you can determine if this system is working correctly..........
