I started to hear a clicking noise of what I assume is a lifter. I was only running 2 quarts of 6 capacity. I would try about 8OZ of marvel mystery oil in the crankcase ...If the problem goes away it was carbon in the lifters ...this occurs when you run low on oil , the oil temps rise to a very high level creating the carbon..
when the oil gets dark replace quickly, as carbon will greatly wear out your engine...
If the problem does not go away , then you most likely damaged the camshaft lobes or spun a crank bearing ...
since you have a oil consumption problem always carry a galllon container of oil with you....
