Its funny I'm gonna answer my own thread but I guess after some research it would help someone else if they run into the same issue.

Well as for turning the DRL off, all I did was removed the fuse in the fuse box. Problem solved.

As for the HID issue, the Equinox needs a Relay in the wiring harness and has to be connected directly to the battery(12V). The original wire harness for the lights cannot supply enough power to the balast, but when connected directly to the battery via the fuse box enough voltage is there for balast not to fail.
Again problem solved.
