Re: Cold Start up car doesnt idle right

When asking for help it is best to give more information about your car. Year, engine (I4 or V6), current mileage, along with the recent maintenance and repair information, which you did give.

That said, I would try a more thorough cleaning of the idle air control valve. You can try spraying more cleaner liberally through the hole in the base of the throttle body and letting that soak for 15 or 20 minutes. If that doesn't help, you may have to remove the idle air control valve for a more thorough cleaning. The next thing that comes to mind is the engine coolant temperature sensor. It may be out of range and not telling the ECU the car is cold. This would result in too lean a mixture to properly start and idle a cold engine. You will need a digital volt/ohmeter and the specs from any manual to test this. If you don't have a manual you can download a Toyota factory service manual for your generation at the top of this forum's home page. Generations 1 and 2 used what is called a Cold Start Time Switch to activate an extra injector in the intake plenum to facilitate a smooth cold start and smooth cold idle. If you have a gneration 1 or 2 Camry you will have to check that too.
