Re: basic auto 101 questions

I.D. 8 ways engines are classified.
Im not exactly sure what you mean by that.

Identify 2 major byproducts of combusted gas.
Co, CO2, Oxygen, Hydrocarbons, NOX (oops)

what is "vaccum" and how does it relate to atmos. press.

Vaccum in an engine related sence is less than atmos. pressure.

xplain valve movements as they relate to the 4 strokes of engine oper. and firing order

Strokes of engine Valve movements
Intake - Intake valve is open as pistion reaches just BTDC
Intake valve is closing as pistion reaches BDC
Compression - Both Valves are closed pistion returns to TDC
Power - Spark plug fires BTDC Both Valves closed
Exhaust Vlave opens just BBDC
Exhaust - Exhaust Valve closed just BTDC
Intake/Exhaust valve overlap

2 major diff. between gas and diesel engine

Less electronics on a Diesel Engine
Way the A/Fmixture is combusted (Gas Spark/ Diesel Compression)

whats accomplished when a camshaft is timed?

Better Engine Perf. by letting the valves open at the best time for the most power

define cam ground piston, blow by, and flash point

blow by is whne the piston rings are worn out and combustion byproducts go past the piston

6 funtions of lubricating oil.

Clean, Cool, Lube, Seal ( i know the other 2 but cant think of em)

Have you ever been to WyoTech? cause i recognize alot of those questions off of some of our tests but its been about a month since ive been thru that Course ... lol
